Oral care and stress

Stress is a very important part of our lives. However, excess of stress can cause so many health problems that there is no end to the possibilities. This includes the reactions that stress can have in regards to oral health. It is very important to understand all the aspects of oral care and it is very important to see how stress can affect our teeth.

For example, clenching of the jaws and clenching your teeth is a sign of stress and that can affect the evenness of your teeth in the long run. Another factor that creates problems in the mouth and teeth can be dryness of the mouth. Medications taken to fight stress anxiety and depression create the reduction of saliva in the mouth and this can cause increase in tooth decay because of the lack of protection that the saliva allows the teeth to have on regular basis. Gum disease due to increase in plaque accumulation due to lack of saliva is also very common in these cases.

High levels of stress affect our normal way of life and we can find that people are not interested in eating, sleeping, or hygiene at these times in life. Even finding toothpaste seems difficult for them. However, all these form a very important factor when it comes to oral care because it is through good health, eating habits and hygiene that our teeth will remain healthier for longer time. It has been found that younger people who are having exam stress, can develop teeth problems like impacted emerging wisdom teeth.

The mouth is a place where infections can happen overnight and therefore it is very important to get a regular dental check up done to make sure you are not developing any kind of oral problems. Dentists can help you make sure you will always be proud to have a shinny smile at all times.
